Viking range ignition problems: what changed at the burner?

A burner that does not light and a burner that keeps clicking after use are different complaints. Record the affected burner and what happens at the controls before arranging service.

Gas odor takes priority

If you smell gas, leave the area and contact your gas utility or emergency services from a safe location. Do not keep trying to ignite the burner or troubleshoot a possible gas leak.

For an ignition complaint without gas odor, let the appliance cool before observing the surface. Leave gas connections, internal wiring and concealed parts untouched.

Describe one burner or the whole range

Note whether one burner or several are affected and whether the clicking sound changes. Include any recent spill or cleaning in the history. These details provide context without proving which part has failed.

If the oven has a separate problem, describe it as well. A surface burner issue does not automatically explain an oven that fails to preheat, particularly when the range uses more than one fuel or heating system.

Prepare for a model-specific assessment

Have the model number and affected burner position ready. Clear the area around the range and allow grates and surfaces to cool. Do not move the appliance or remove its connections to prepare for the visit.

The technician assesses the relevant ignition and control operation before recommending work. Ask about the diagnostic visit while scheduling; a repair estimate depends on the identified fault and required parts.

Before you book.

No. Stop using a burner that is not operating reliably and arrange assessment. If gas odor is present, leave and contact the gas utility or emergency services from a safe location.
